Description
This item was made by Nomura Toys ("TN") in Japan in the 1950's. It was called "Ko-Ko Mechanical Sandwich Man" and depicts a clown wearing a 1930's style sandwich board advertising "Eat at Joe's". When wound with the captive key, the figure removes and replaces his hat with his right hand, while shaking his cane with his left and bending his knees. His nose also wiggles back and forth. A lot of actions in this toy, and they all still work! This is a hard toy to find in perfect condition due to the use of tin, fabric, paper, and rubber materials in its construction. This one is in much better condition than most, with the original hands and sign still in place, although showing some wear - the rubber on the left arm is cracked, and the sign is a bit wrinkled with a slight tear at the bottom. The felt jacket and bowtie are also discolored/sun-bleached. However, the tin hat and shoes are in good shape, with no rust and great color, and the plastic face and nose are also amazingly clean and undamaged. Overall, a very nice vintage toy that displays and works well. About 8" tall x 3.5" wide x 4" deep.
